Grateful for Growth

Hello Beautiful Souls!

I hope your holidays were filled with love and laughter, family and friends, delicious food and everything else in between.  I love the holidays and every year (from Thanksgiving to the beginning of the New Year), I begin to reflect.   It’s the craziest time of the year – my family doesn’t know if we are traveling, I don’t know if I’m cooking a huge meal, and scheduling quality time with/for our multidimensional family always presents a challenge.  Yet in the end, it always works out and is extremely satisfying.  As I grow older, simply being together and embracing family love while sharing memories is what speaks to my heart.

During the New Year’s holiday last week, my husband & I (along with our kids) took a trip to the mountains.  It was a sleepy little area and after snowboarding for the first couple of days, we really began to relax and let go, while enjoying the stillness of the quiet vacant town.  One night, I found myself sitting by the fire really reflecting on the journey of life and where I am at this moment.  I became overwhelmed with the feeling of love and gratitude for this journey.  My mind took me back, way back, when I was a little girl, feeling alone and afraid as I often did at that time in my life.  I didn’t have a very happy childhood – it was filled with emotional and physical abuse and feelings of helplessness and sadness.  It wasn’t until I experienced my first counseling session (at age 17) that I started to take a look at myself and realize that happiness lies within and that only I can be responsible for my own happiness.  That was the start of doing the work, peeling back the layers and I haven’t stopped since.  I’ve made many mistakes along the way, been to really dark places and dealt with that darkness (sometimes in very unhealthy ways), but in the end, learned from them and am grateful for every bit of it.  With every dark situation, there is always light, and with that light, there is opportunity for growth.  I am extremely grateful for the growth.  When you open yourself up and be vulnerable, you are setting yourself free.  The more I am free, the more driven I become to help others.  My growth has brought me an incredible passion for healthy living through food as medicine, yoga, meditation and Energy Healing.  It brings me joy to pass it along to anyone and everyone who is open to receiving it.   I hope 2018 brings you endless possibilities, opportunities for growth and everything your heart desires.

Much love,

Dena
